Dear friends,

As I dropped my daughter, Rachel, off at the airport, I hugged her tight and said,
"It was so nice having you home. I am glad you were able to come." Even as the
words came out of my mouth, the image of my dad came rushing to the front of my
mind.

My parents moved to Kentucky in 1996. When they left I thought I might never
see them again. Their new home seemed so far away. Fortunately, I was able to
visit several times over the years. Every time I made the trip it seemed like those
few days passed too quickly.

My father always said the same thing every time I got ready to go. I usually
brushed it off. To me it was no big deal. After that first time, I figured I would be
back again. It wasn't until last Saturday that I began to understand what my father
was saying.

As you get older and watch your children grow up and go off on their own, you
realize that the time you have with them grows more limited every year. Life gets
busy and you never know when you will be together again. So you have to enjoy
those precious moments you have.

As I was driving home from the airport the thought hit me that our Father God also
covets the opportunity to spend time with us. We get so busy living our lives that
we often fail to make time for Him. Days and months can go by without giving God
a thought.

That's why I am so thankful for the holidays. They offer us an excuse (not that we
need one) to come home and spend some time with our Heavenly Father. They
remind us that the door is always open and that God is waiting for us to drop in for
a visit.

Lori and I can look forward to a visit from all three of our girls at Christmas.
Believe me, we will enjoy every minute of it. From what I know of God, I can tell
you that He will be just as delighted when you come home for Christmas.

God bless! See you in church. Cal.
