Who Loves You Baby?                                  July 16, 2014

Dear friends,

Excuse my reference to Telly Savalas, but have you ever had one of those days
where everything went wrong, but after all was said and done, you found yourself
exactly where you were supposed to be?  That happened to me last week.

On Friday I was all set to go see the new Planet of the Apes movie.  Just before
6:00 a.m. all of that changed.  It started with an unplanned trip to the emergency
room for my daughter. Thankfully it wasn't as serious as we thought but that set
off a series of events that ended up making my little jaunt to the movies unfeasible.

At my age I have learned to expect the unexpected.  When these challenges come,
I simply turn to God and ask him for the patience to accept what is happening.  I
don't always like it, and it isn't always easy, but I invite God to show me the way.

I call this practice "God walking" and I am always amazed at what happens when I
let God guide me through a day.  I end up seeing things I never dreamed of.  Little
blessings come out of unexpected places. Best of all is the sense that I am not
alone.  God is with me.

So I was delighted when Lori called to see if I wanted to go to the movies on
Friday night.  Of course it meant seeing a different movie (Lori isn't a big sci-fi
fan!)  We chose to see "The Fault in Our Stars."  It was just what I needed that
day.

It was a great movie.  And yes, I'll admit it.  I cried.  But the gift came when I was
reminded that it is in our relationships that we realize our significance.  It is not
what we do as much as who we love and who loves us that define our lives.  When
we know we are loved by God, it changes everything.

So are you having a bad day?  Think about this: God loves you!  I pray that this
might be just what you need to turn your day around.

God bless! See you in church.  Cal
