What Are You Waiting For?
June 15, 2016
Anticipation. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as the
feeling of excitement about something that is going to happen. Another
site defines it as a pleasurable expectation! Anticipation was also
the name of singer/songwriter Carly Simon's hit song from the 70's.
The chorus of Simon's song was used in a television commercial
for Heinz Ketchup. The image is still planted in my mind. The music
played as the condiment slowly worked its way out of the bottle to the
burger below. Then the tag line came: "It's worth the wait!"
I had that feeling as we flew out to Iowa last month for my daughter's
graduation. Along with the commencement exercises I was looking
forward to a trip to Jimmy John's Restaurant. They sell subs. My
favorite is called the Turkey Tom.
Crusty bread, turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato and a thin line of mayo.
Sounds like any other turkey grinder but this one was among the best
I ever tasted. The combination of ingredients was just perfect. I couldn't
wait to get reacquainted with old Turkey Tom.
It was one of the first places we stopped when we got to Ames. Talk
about disappointment. I don't know if I had built it up so big in my
mind or if something had changed in the way it was made, but what
I was given that day was one of the worst grinders I've ever had.
As I left the restaurant it struck me that life is full of disappointments.
Very few things stack up to either what we hope for or what we remember.
God's promises will last forever.
So if life has knocked you down or you have been disappointed with
the way things have been going lately, I'd like to invite you to come to
church. Come listen to what God has planned for you. Come be blessed.
God loves you. I promise you won't be disappointed.
God bless! See you in church.
