Well Suited for the Season              December 3, 2014

Dear friends,

I have to admit that the worst time to make a decision about buying new clothes
is on Thanksgiving. I had just stuffed myself and settled down to watch a little
football when an advertisement came on that caught my attention.

One guy after another came on wearing beautifully tailored suits.  The
announcer declared that all day Friday Joseph Abboud was offering men's
suits for $139.  I know.  Black Friday!  What fool would risk his life to go out
in that madness?

Guilty as charged. This was when my frugality got the best of my common
sense.  I went out on Black Friday and found two great looking suits.  I tried
them on.  They fit almost perfectly.  Well, they were a tad on the tight side.
I bought them anyway.

As I was heading home I reasoned that NOW I had an "excuse" to lose that
five pounds I had gained over the last few months.  Since the suits had already
been paid for, I had a good reason to get back on the weight loss wagon.

I know it sounds silly but sometimes we need a reason to make changes.
I think that is why God decided to enter our fallen world on that silent night long
ago.  It was his way of saying, "I love you and I want to be with you."

Too many people reject Christianity because they think it is all about the
rules, That is why I love Christmas. It reminds us that God loves us. As far
as gifts go, God gave us the very best. He gave us the gift of his presence.

And like with my new suits, knowing how much God loves us gives us a
reason to make those changes that will help us fit back into the image of the
one who created us. May this advent season give you a reason to do what
you need to do!

God bless! See you in church.  Cal
