The Ultimate Stain Remover

March 16, 2016
Dear Friends,

It was such a small cup of coffee.  It was only six ounces.  I set it down and was ready to begin
working on my first project of the day.  I couldn't believe how big of a mess it made when I
inadvertently knocked it over.  It went everywhere.

My desk became a disaster area.  I quickly reached for the papers that were sitting
unprotected to my right.  I watched in horror as the liquid began to expand and run its
race to contaminate everything it could.

I grabbed my phone, keys and the stereo remote control just before they were buried in
the lava-like flow of the light brown, syrupy demon of the morning.  If I didn't need the
coffee before the spill, I certainly did afterwards.

It is funny how little things become big things before you know it.  Something as innocuous
as a cup of coffee can stop you from doing what you want to do.  Even after I cleaned up the
spill I never quite got back on track for the rest of the day.

That is how it is with sin.  Most of us are pretty good about avoiding the BIG ones.  I wish it
was that simple.  Like with my coffee, it is usually the sins we consider minor that do the most
damage.  They leave a stain on our lives and disrupt our plans.

It is the little lie that leads to indiscretions and starts us down the path to ruin.  It is foolish pride
that leads us to act in arrogant and unloving ways.  It is a sense of entitlement that pushes us to
take that which isn't ours.  It doesn't take much to make a mess of things.

The Good News is that Jesus died on the cross for our minor sins as well as the big ones.
We have been forgiven.  We can start over and begin again.  We don't have to live with the
mess caused by our clumsiness and we can get on with following Jesus.

So as we enter Holy Week let's give thanks to God for his indescribably gift, the gift of new
life in Christ and the promise of a fresh new beginning.

God bless! See you in Church.
