The Key to Happily Ever After                       May 15, 2014

Dear friends,

I had a tear in my eye as she rounded the corner and started down the aisle.  The
joy was radiating from her like the glow around the moon on a perfect evening.
You could see the pride on her father's face as he escorted his little girl down the
aisle.

It was a scene that is often reserved for fairy tales.  The beautiful young girl meets
her Prince Charming and they live happily ever after.  It was a special day for
Amanda and Danny and their families as they exchanged their vows last week.

Weddings are all about promise.  They lift up love and devotion and suggest that if
two people are committed to working together they can overcome anything.  I
often tell couples that weddings can be wonderful but a good marriage can be ever
better.

Marriage isn't easy.  It is all about giving and sharing.  Throw in a dose of humility
and couple that with a willingness to forgive and it adds up to joy and blessing.  I
always suggest to couples that they look to God as they build their life and family
together.

I love that famous poem, "Marriage Takes Three."  It reads, "I once thought
marriage took just two to make a go.  But now I am convinced it takes the Lord
also.  And not one marriage fails when Christ is asked to enter as lovers come
together with Jesus at the center."

God used marriage as an illustration for the relationship that Jesus has with the
church.  It featured sacrifice, unconditional love, a committed presence, strength
and encouragement and so much more.  I love weddings but God loves a
committed marriage.

If you are married, I pray that your marriage may be wonderful and that you will
know all the blessings that it has to offer.  If you are struggling, look to God and
invite him in.  It may be the key to your happily ever after.

God bless. See you in church.
