The Game                                          June 4, 2014

Dear friends,

Anna loves to play "the game."  It is a modified version of hide and seek.  Our
house is perfect for it because we have a long hall  that sits opposite our living
room.  We can literally play forever by doing circles around the wall that separates
the two areas.

All I have to do is say the word "game".  When I get up and go around the corner
she immediately follows me.  When she was just a puppy, she would chase me and
we would both get quite a workout.  Now-a-days she listens for my footsteps
before deciding which way to go.

I have to confess that I cheat.  Anna has a collar with a couple of clinking tags that
give away her whereabouts.  I can tell when she is getting close and when she is
nearly upon me I bolt to the other side.

She never gets tired of it though.  I think the reason she keeps playing is because
I make a big fuss when she finally catches me. (Yes, I always let her win!)  I hug
and kiss her and tell her how much daddy loves her.

It struck me that walking with God sometimes feels like a game too.  We know he
is there but we can't always see him.  We stop, look and listen but it feels like he is
just out of reach, right around the corner.  We wonder if God cares and why he is
hiding from us.

Maybe Anna has something to teach us?  She has learned to trust me.  She knows
that I love her, and even if she can't see me, that I am not far away.  Isn't that true
of God as well?  We may not see God in any given moment but it is usually
because we aren't looking.

The truth is that God is always right there when we need him most.  When we
catch up with him, he always is quick to hug us and tell us how much he loves us.
Quite often that hug comes from someone God has sent your way.  I pray that if
you need God today, that you will find him and in doing so, be blessed.

God bless!  See you in church.
