Slow Down and Walk With God

                                                                     May 30, 2018

Dear Friends,

Seasons of Love, the award winning song from the Broadway musical,
Rent, gives us these famous words: "525,600 minutes.  How do you
measure a year in a life?"

Our church's annual meeting was last Sunday. For as far back as anyone can
remember, we've put together a booklet filled with the reports from
all the officers, boards and committees.

I like to think of this booklet as an historical document. It tells our story.
It celebrates our ministry. I've made it a point to add some extras to the
book that highlight the key events each year.

For example, I write a chronological listing of the events of the previous
twelve months. I'm amazed at the number of things that we do in a year.
It's easy to forget what we've done and even where we've been.

Time goes by so quickly and sometimes we move so fast that we don't
enjoy the present. The Psalmist warns us to number our days. That's
where wisdom and happiness lies. Each day counts.

Several years ago I tried to start my days with a little prayer. I'd offer the
day to God and then ask him to direct my steps. I didn't do it every day,
but when I did, amazing things happened.

I began to look for opportunities to serve God. It slowed things down. I
began noticing little things. Before long I was seeing God's hand everywhere.
It was obvious that God's always with us.

It was through this process that I began writing this column. It made such an
impact on my life that I wanted to share it with my friends. It began as an
email and morphed into a weekly column in the newspaper.

So thank you for reading. I hope my anecdotes and stories have helped you
slow down and realize that God loves you. If you need him, all you have
to do is look around you. You will find Him.

God Bless! See you in church.

(P.S. Remember the church is wherever God's people serve the Lord.)
