Reminders of God's Love February 19, 2013
I hate to throw anything away. I am not exactly a hoarder, but I do have a
propensity to save things. My motto could be “You never know when you are
going to need it.”
Yet there I was standing in the kitchen of my parent’s home last Monday. My
charge was to go through each room and sort things into the three categories of
trash, donations and good enough to sell. I surprised myself by breezing through
the first two rooms.
I loaded up the garbage bags and boxed up a lot of stuff. It wasn't until I reached
the last room when everything nearly came to a stop. It was there that I unearthed
a treasure trove of precious memories.
My mom had captured every significant moment in our lives and tucked them
away in decorative boxes and photo albums. She kept cards, notes, newspaper
clippings, art projects, and photos of the significant moments in our lives and kept
these things close to her heart.
Among the treasures was a plaque that read: “God couldn't be everywhere so He
created mothers.” I am not so sure that the theology is correct but I do know that
God loves us with a parent’s heart. He celebrates our victories and cheers us on
in our challenges.
Author Max Lucado once wrote, "If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be
on it. If he had a wallet, your picture would be in it." As a matter of fact, he loves
us so much he gave us the most precious gift of all, a savior, Jesus Christ the Lord.
So next time you wonder if anyone cares. Look up and know that God loves you
as only God can love.
God bless. See you in church. Cal
