No Need to Build an Ark                                                    April 2, 2014

Dear friends,

While the movie Noah was making waves at the box office, the rain and wind was
creating havoc at the church.  I got a call early Sunday morning that two days of
steady rain had created a perfect storm for us.

The run off from the storm drains in the neighborhood above had overflowed and
found their way onto our property. An underground river rose and emerged
through the culverts in our parking lot. The water was over a foot deep and
threatening to breach the building.

Noah was safe in the ark but it took a bunch of sandbags and a few volunteers to
save us.  We narrowly escaped disaster.  God sure has a sense of humor.  At least
it gave me a memorable illustration on the devastating effects of sin for my
sermon.

You see the truth about sin is that you never know how and where it is going to
surface and who it is going to touch.  Most of us think that we can do whatever we
want because it is our life.  Yet we are all connected.

If you read the story of Noah in the Bible, you will see that the flood was the result
of everyone doing what was right in their own eyes.  Whether it is our pride, greed,
sexual immorality or some other selfish action, there is a ripple effect that often
follows and it brings trouble to everyone on the periphery.

The good news for us is that God has a new way to deal with sin.  No more floods!
This is what we are celebrating during Lent.  Why not head to your local church
and hear how Jesus paid the price for our sin with his death on the cross?  Find out
how you can experience God's forgiveness and let the sun rise on a beautiful new
day.

God bless! See you in church. Cal
