Looking for the Easy Button

December 7, 2016
Dear Friends,

I reached for the button and it was gone.  It was one of those days you just want to
forget.  Things were coming at me from all directions.  I love Christmas but I needed
to pause.  Too many things to do.  Not enough hours in the day.

The thing about the holidays is that the world doesn't stop moving so you can sit down
and enjoy the fun.  People still get sick.  Bills show up in mailbox.  You have to get up
and go to work.  Life can actually get harder at Christmas.

That's why I reached for the EASY button.  We used to have one in the office.
My secretary, Cindy, and I always joked about it.  We got it from Staples.  The simple
knowledge that it was there actually made us feel better.

I know it didn't do anything.  It simply provided an outlet for us to vent, to complain
and to laugh about the situations that came up that added stress to our routines.
You want it when?  Hit the EASY button and laugh to yourself.

It was gone. We laughed when we realized it. The thought hit me that someone
must have needed it more than we did. The truth is that as people of faith we have
someone we can turn when we get overwhelmed.

This is the message of Christmas. In the birth of Jesus, God was sending us a message.
In Matthew 1:23 the author says the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son.  He
shall be called Emmanuel, which means, God with us.

Christmas tells us that we no longer have to walk alone. God is with us. He has promised
to carry our burdens and lift our loads. Life may never be easy but when we walk with
the Lord we will be able to overcome the trials of life.

Christmas reminds us that God gives us the strength, the patience, the wisdom to do
what needs to be done.  And who knows?  With God at our side it might even seem... Easy.
So enjoy the season with the knowledge that God is with you.

God bless!  See you in church.
