Living a New Life                                              July 18, 2013

Dear friends,

It began as an effort to put our home on the housing market. Last Fall we started
organizing, cleaning, painting and fixing things around the house. It is amazing how
quickly piles build up and paint starts to fade. We've been in the house 6 1/2 years
and the house has been a wonderful home.

A friend of mine once commented that our house looked "lived in." I am not sure it
was a compliment. The truth is that unless you are constantly picking up and taking
care of regular maintenance little things can snowball pretty quickly. Jobs like
doing the laundry or putting out the recyclables can become a nightmare if you let
them go long enough.

With all that being said, I am happy to report that we had our first showing this
week. All of our hard work paid off. By the time the Realtor came to the door I was
pretty pleased with how things looked. There was a place for everything and
everything was in its place.

Later that evening I walked through the house pretending that I was a prospective
buyer and I became a little emotional. The house looked great. All it took was a
little concentrated effort to return it to its original state. It struck me that the same
thing is true in our personal lives.

Just as our home began to look "lived in" over time, our lives tend to get a little
messy too. We don't watch what we eat. We let ourselves get caught up in gossip.
We get busy and drift away from regular prayer and worship. Before long we are
living just like everyone else and caught up in a rut.

The good news is that we clean up pretty good. If we call on the Lord, he will come
in and give us a fresh start and a new perspective. He will turn us around and get us
back on track. Before long we will be living the life of blessing, the life we were
created for.

I'll let you know if someone decides to make our home, their home. But for now I
will continue to enjoy our new showcase home even as I work on getting the rest of
my life back in shape. With God, all things are possible.

Be blessed. See you in church. Cal
