Dear Friends,

It was the hottest day of the summer and our air conditioner quit working. Isn't that always the
way it happens? What made it worse was the fact that we had just moved into the new house
days before and were excited about having central air.

We woke up on Monday morning realizing we had a problem. The unit's blower was working
but it was pumping out warm air. It was already a steamy 81 degrees and the temperature was
rising. I did the smart thing and called the local heating and air conditioning company.

Do you remember the show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? When I was told the A/C company
couldn't get to me until Friday, I went to plan B. I called my friend. If anybody could fix it, Ray
could do it. He has an aptitude for mechanical things.

I was overjoyed when Ray said he could come over. We methodically worked our way through a
checklist of possible problems. I was there to do my thing. I held the flashlight. Ray opened the
condenser unit. Within minutes he noticed the problem.

He said, "Give me that!" and pointed at the screwdriver I was holding in my hand. After a minute
he said, "That should do it." He put the unit back together, turned the power on and the unit sprung
to life. It was so simple. That's because I had Ray.

The truth is that life is filled with moments like this. There are challenges that come out of nowhere.
Relationships break down. Accidents happen. Dreams are put on hold. We are left feeling
overwhelmed and thinking there is nothing we can do.

The Good News is that we are not alone. When things are heating up, when we get in trouble,
we can call on the Lord. We may not have the knowledge, the strength, the ability to get through
but we have a lifeline and we can call a friend.

The apostle Paul writes that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. He is like
my friend. He is able. He is available. He stands with us in our time of need. So what's your
problem? Call out to Jesus and he will help you find a way to overcome it and get back on track.

God bless! See you in church.
