It Is Good News                          October 17, 2013

Dear friends,

He said his name was Andrew. I was not really into making conversation. We had
just boarded the plane and I was tired. I had a 4:30 a.m. wake-up call and was
hoping to catch a little sleep in my two hour flight from Dallas to Cincinnati.

Once we lifted off the ground he started up again. He asked me if I was going
home. It was then that I noticed he had an Australian accent and it made me think
of my mentor, Dr. John Brooks. With that pleasant memory, our conversation
began.

We talked a lot about family, church and God. He asked me what I did for a living
and I told him I was a pastor. I knew he went to church and was very active. It
wasn't until the start of our descent that I finally asked him what he did for a living.

It was then he shared his story and how he became the editor of a Christian
newspaper that focused on sharing good news and heartwarming testimonies. He
said he hoped that his paper would help people understand that the Gospel really is
good news and that people would be encouraged to share it with others.

I like that. The thought of sharing our faith scares some people. We have this idea
that in order to share Christ with others we have to push a set of beliefs on them. I
think that is because we forget how liberating our faith can be.

The truth is that the scriptures tell us that God loves us. He knows us. He knows
we mess up. The good news is that he loves us any way. That's why he sent his son,
Jesus. Too many people think God hates them. Our job is to tell them the good
news and introduce them to the truth and the One who set us free.

So go out and share the good news. Tell them your story and how Jesus changed
your life. It is as easy as that.

God bless. See you in church. Cal.
