God is the Answer to Life’s Mysteries

Dear Friends,

I love a good mystery. It gives you a chance to exercise your brain. I read
mystery novels as an escape from the daily trials of ministry. It's great. You
can enjoy the tension. Yet the problems belong to someone else.

As a bonus, you get to ride along with Hercule Poirot, Alex Cross or Spenser.
You can match wits with a variety of characters. Pat yourself on the back if
you figure out who the villain is before the hero does. It's fun.

Of course, life itself can throw a real live mystery on your doorstep. Last
Wednesday it happened to me. I got a call from a man whose mother had
died. He wanted to know if I could help him find a hymn that she loved.

He said it was in the back of our hymnal and it had something to do with
feet. He told me he could hum a few bars but that probably wouldn't help.
He couldn't carry a tune. Feet? Talk about a mystery! I had no idea.

I looked in the index of the hymnal and came up empty. I knew I was going
to need help. The truth is that sometimes we can't solve things ourselves.
We just don't know enough. The clues are too abstract.

Life can be challenging. I thank God for the message of the resurrection.
It assures us that we are not alone. God promised to walk with us and that
he'd never leave us. He'll be there when we face life's greatest mysteries.

That's good news. It's great to know that you've got a friend who can help
carry the burdens and comfort us when we are troubled. It's nice to know
that you've got someone who can help you solve life's greatest mysteries.

As to my little problem, I called on a couple of friends to help. I gave them
the clues and they went to work. Within hours they had solved this mystery.
The hymn was "God Be With You Till We Meet Again."

The chorus goes like this, "Till We Meet, Till We Meet, Till we meet at Jesus
feet. God be with you till we meet again." It was no mystery after all. It
was the perfect hymn to sing as he said good bye to his mom.

God bless! See you in church.
