God is Crazy About You

          May 12, 2016
Dear Friends,

I was willing to sit there all day just to hear her name.  There were 4,600
graduates.  We didn't know exactly how it was going to play out.  This was
the first year they held graduation in Jack Trice Stadium at Iowa State.
It was a new experience for everyone.

It took forty minutes for the processional.  After the platform party was
seated and the opening remarks were made, the President of Iowa State
took his place.  We were an hour into the program when the keynote
speaker began.  We weren't there to hear him though.

When the roll call of names and presentation of diplomas began, everyone
scooted forward.  They were waiting for the same thing we were.  We wanted
to hear our daughter's name as she crossed the stage to receive her diploma.
And so it went for the next two hours.

Graduations mark the end of a journey.  The ceremony recognizes the fact
that you have accomplished something special.  Over the course of four years
we watched our daughter grow up into a beautiful, talented young woman.
This was her moment.  Yet we were as excited as she was.

A quote from author Max Lucado came to mind as I sat there.  He wrote,
“If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.  If He had a wallet,
your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise
every morning.  He is crazy about you!”

That is the image of God that I grew up with.  In Jeremiah 1:5 we hear God's
proudly declare, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you
were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."  We
have a God who knows our name.

I believe God celebrates these special moments in our lives.  He sits on the
edge of His seat waiting for us to step out so that he can share our joy.  Life
isn't always easy but God  is always there and He rejoices with us when we
claim a victory, large or small.

Like a proud parent, our Heavenly Father rejoices when He hears our name.
So here is the good news!  Don't ever forget it.  God loves you.  Next time you
walk across the stage of life, look up.  He will be there with a smile when they
call your name.

God bless!  See you in church.
