First Class With Jesus
August 2, 2017
I looked around and couldn't find him. I got worried. They
were getting ready to board the plane. The gate area was wall to
wall with people. It was my job to insure that all nine of us made
the flight. Rick had gone AWOL and we hadn't even left on our
mission trip yet.
Then some one said, "There's Rick!" I looked over at the ticket
gate. He was first in line. He was with our oldest team member,
Judy, and all those who were allowed to pre-board. He was
carrying her bags. He walked down the ramp with Judy and
continued out of sight.
The first thing we saw as we got on the plane was Rick and Judy
sitting in the front row. The teasing began immediately as we
noted his seats in "first class!" For the next two days we accused
him of carry Judy's bags just so he could gain access to the
Rick is a good sport. We had some fun at his expense. As I
thought about it an old saying came to mind. "It's not what you
know that's important. It's who you know." Rick was in the right
place at the right time. He got his place in the front row because
he was with Judy.
That's true with our faith as well. Romans 3:23 tells us that all
have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. None of us
deserve any favor from God. If we got what we deserved we
would all be in trouble. To put it metaphorically, we'd be in
the back of the plane.
The Good News is that doors are opened when we know Jesus.
He is the key, not only to our salvation, but to a life filled with
benefits. The Apostle Paul says these include love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and
It is our connection to Christ that unlocks these gifts. When we
invite him into our lives we get a front row seat to witness grace
in action. More than that, we get to share it with everyone we meet.
So stick with Jesus. Wait and see what happens. You will be
blessed! Don't believe me? Just ask Rick!
God bless! See you in church.
