Every Day is a New Day
  August 24, 2016

Dear Friends,

You could feel the excitement in the air as soon as you entered the room.
People were standing wall to wall as the procession began. Smiles were on
every face as the crowd angled to get a better view of the guest of honor
coming down the aisle.

There is something precious about new beginnings.  The hope and promise
of what might be is floating in front of you as you look to the future.  Add
to that the sense of coming home and you have the making of an epic story
that is about to be written.

On Sunday morning Father Mike was officially welcomed as the new pastor
of St. Pius X Church.  He grew up in town and was coming home.  Installation
services remind us that God is active in His church.  I was blessed to be there.

These moments mark a fresh anointing of God's spirit.  They give us an
opportunity to reach out in new ways.  They give us permission to embrace
the different gifts that God has given us.  They open doors to new possibilities
of service and love to the world around us.

In Chapter 43 of the book of Isaiah God declares, "Behold I am doing a new
thing."  He was talking about the coming of the messiah.  He was predicting the
arrival of a new day when forgiveness would rain down upon the people and
hope would return.

That is the work of the church today as we continue what Christ initiated.
Every priest, every minister, is charged with being faithful with the Good
News and sharing God's reconciling love with the world.  Father Mike
embraced that calling on Sunday.

The rest of us also agreed to recommit ourselves to the Lord's service.  We
are the body of Christ.  We are called to work alongside our pastors to make
the love and forgiveness of Christ a reality in the world. The world need it now,
more than ever.

St Francis of Assisi puts our calling this way: "We have been called to heal
wounds, to unite what has fallen apart, and to bring home those who have
lost their way."  Every day is a new day.  So embrace the calling.  Accept the
challenge.  Go out and love the world for Christ.

God bless. See you in church.
