Can You Give God a Hand?

                                                                     May 16, 2018
Dear Friends,

I want to be that guy!  You hardly knew he was there.  He was ready
for that brief moment when the star moved out of the spotlight.  He
stood there in the shadows until he was needed.

We were at Chris Tomlin's Worship Night in America concert in
Hartford, CT. While all eyes were on Chris Tomlin and his fellow
musicians, my eyes were drawn to the stage hand.

Throughout the night he'd suddenly appear. Standing just out of the
spotlight with a new guitar, a bottle of water, a baseball cap or
some other prop, he'd sneak in and then step out again.

Tomlin introduced his all star lineup.  Matt Maher, Kim Walker
Smith of Jesus Culture, Tauren Wells, Christine D'Clario and Pat
Bennet, the writer of "Good, Good Father," joined him on stage.

One after another they offered up songs of praise and had the crowd
cheering and singing along.  It was an extraordinary night of worship.
Tomlin quieted the crowd as the concert ended.

He asked us to thank the real stars of the evening.  He pointed to the
sidelines.  He said without the lighting crew, sound technicians, and
stage hands there wouldn't be a concert to enjoy.

It made me think of the Apostle Paul's words in I Corinthians. "The
eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!"  The head cannot say
to the feet, "I don't need you."  Every part is needed.

Maybe that's why I was drawn to the stage hand.  His job was to be
ready to serve.  We can do that!  God needs people like you and me
to serve as his body in the world.  What do you say?  Let's give God
a hand... or maybe an ear?  And do it with all our heart.

God Bless! See you in church.
