And The Winner Is... January 29, 2014
I wanted to win. I even stooped to asking God to help so that my name might be
pulled out of the jar. Why shouldn't I be the lucky one? I try to live right. Is it
really wrong to pray that you will be chosen to win something special?
I am one of those people who say "I never win" when the drawing is held. Of
course that's not quite true. Back in 1995 I won the use of a Lincoln Navigator for
a week. As recently as last year I won a gift basket with Connecticut Sun
For some reason we forget these things when the next big opportunity comes
along. That's why I thought I had no shot when they announced that they were
giving away two all expense paid trips to Israel at the conference I attended last
I'd love to go to Israel. The thought of retracing the steps that Jesus took is
something that has been a growing desire of my heart. The cost of such a trip is
prohibitive though. So I sat there and offered up a prayer: "Please Lord, let them
pull my name out of the jar."
Needless to say I did not win. As I sat there feeling a little sorry for myself, I
suddenly realized that in my desire to win that prize I had forgotten just how many
blessings that I had already received from God. It is so easy to lose sight of that.
We get distracted by the world.
When that happens I want to encourage you to do what I did. Stop and make a list
of all the good things you have in your life. Then praise God and give thanks. You
will feel better and soon realize that you have already received the answer to your
heart's prayers. God is good not just when a prize is being offered. God is good all
God bless. See you in church! Cal
