Harpers Ferry, Antietam & Gettysburg
The Historic Battlefield tour
At the end of September a group of members and friends of the congregation
set off on a bus tour of the Civil War battlefields at Harpers Ferry, West
Virginia, Antietam, Maryland and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
It proved to be an informative tour as we visited not only the historic sights
of some of the war's most decisive battles, but also the lasting memorials to
the soldiers who fought so valiantly. There was a connection to Westerly to
be seen as well.
Many of the monuments on these three battlefields and in the nearby
cemeteries were made with granite from Westerly and designed by people
who lived right here in town.
The trip also offered the opportunity for great fellowship and fun as we
journey by bus together. Jonathan Gibson put together a book of trivia. Linda
Engler organized a brochure with lots of facts.
We had great food and first class lodging. Our tour guides were very
knowledgeable and they brought the battles to life as they told the story of
our countries darkest hour.
I hope you enjoy the photographs from the trip. Click on the image to see it at
